Members of the Piney Orchard Figure Skating Team of Odenton and their families recently celebrated the end of their 2007-2008 season at the Crofton home of its team president, Debbie Risher, with a Mexican Fiesta, swimming, games, and an array of awards honoring several ice skaters.
Award recipients were selected by coaches from Piney Orchard with head coach and figure skating director, Linda Monney presenting.
The Skating Achievement Award, given to the skater who clearly stood at the top of the team as an accomplished skater in competition and/or testing was awarded to 11-year-old Grace Bloomfield of Sherwood, currently skating at the Juvenile level and taking part in several competitions this past year.
Ian Shane Alexander, 14 of Annapolis earned the POFST Outstanding Perseverance Award for exhibiting the drive and persistence necessary to excel in his level, despite obstacles.
Two skaters showing the greatest improvement in any area of skating – freestyle, dance, and/or synchro were awarded for Superior Improvement were Millersville’s 9 year old Erica Rosasco, and 11 year old Ashley Strong.
Annie Rackley, 18, of Crofton, captured the Diligence Award for the ultimate determination to achieve her goals.
Molly McAteer, 7, of Annapolis was presented the Espirit de Corps Award for demonstrating a positive attitude both on and off the ice, always giving her all and supporting her teammates regardless of the outcome.
“Team Moms” Nandini Brown of Annapolis and Connie Fortney of Millersville, who took to the ice as part of the POFST Production Team’s “Beatlemania” were recognized with the Admirable Sportsmanship Award for exemplifying what being a good sport and teammate is both on and off the ice.
Adding their name to the list of 32 other POFST skaters since 1998 were 17 year-old Niki Newcomb of Glen Burnie and 11 year-old Sydney Behling of Millersville who were presented with axel pins, given to skaters who landed a consistent axel this year either in lesson, practice, or competition, as witnessed by a coach.
President Debbie Risher also recognized the team’s two 2008 graduating seniors, Katie Wilson of Pasadena, currently attending Penn State, and Annie Rackley of Crofton, currently attending the University of Delaware.
In addition Coach Lindsay Wenger of Baltimore became the 9th member of the POSFT Team to receive a 10-year membership pin, while Allison and Connie Fortney of Millersville, and Debbie and Jennifer Christie of Stevensville, received 5- year membership pins.
Gifts were presented to the POFST Team board members President Debbie Risher, Vice President, Nandini Brown; Treasurer, Jami Wilson; Secretary, Susan Bloomfield; Membership Chairperson, Gretchen Levine, Publicity Chairperson, Linda Newcomb and Webmaster, Marsha Bradley, especially for redesigning our website. Special thank you gifts were also given to several “behind-the-scenes” parents, recognizing their time and energy spent for designing, building and painting backdrops and scenery, as well as designing, measuring and sewing costumes, keeping up with competition paperwork, implementing a new computer system and software package for competitions, and all the other efforts, big or small, that pulled all our great kids and parents together.

Serena’s Peanut Butter Pie
1 8 oz cream cheese (regular or fat-free)
1.5 cup powdered sugar
1 cup peanut butter
1 16 oz cool whip (regular or fat-free)
2 pie crusts
1-2 bags of mini semi-sweet chocolate morsels
Soften cream cheese. Combine cream cheese and peanut butter.
Slowly add the powdered sugar. Mix well. Gradually add cool whip until smooth.
Pour into chocolate crusts.
Sprinkle or arrange the mini semi-sweet chocolate morsels on top.
Freeze.
Salsa dip – from Kelly Boyle
1 package of cream cheese(at room temp so it is spreadable)
1 jar of salsa (mild, medium or hot)
1 package of Mexican shredded cheese
Bag of tortilla chips
1. In a microwave or oven safe pie plate spread cream cheese.
2. Pour jar of salsa on top and spread out.
3. Top with Mexican cheese.
4. Place in microwave for 3 minutes or in oven at 350 for 5 - 10 minutes. Until cheese is melted on top.
Serve with tortilla chips.
